SONG TITLE: Walkin' On The Sun
ARTIST/GROUP: Smash Mouth
Ok, there are two guitars in this song, one clean and one incredibly
dirty. For that dirty sound, use a lot of distortion, use the bridge
pickup, and pick the strings real close to the bridge.
I'll divide the song into 4 or 5 riffs, then give you the lyrics.
I have the timing below all the riffs, because it's a bit tricky in
some places. I tried to say exactly where to play what, it may get
a little confusing in places. It's probably easier to just learn the
riffs and then listen to the song to hear when what is being played.
Oh yeah, and if you want to play along with the CD you have to tune
one note (half step) down, Smash Mouth are always tuned down.

then the dirty guitar comes in and plays
RIFF 2 two times. (At the same time the
clean guitar keeps playing RIFF 1)
VERSE 1: [clean guitar plays RIFF 3]
--------
It ain't no joke I'd like to buy the world a toke
And teach the world to sing in perfect harmony
And teach the world to snuff the fires and the liars
Hey I know it's just a song but it's the spice for the recipe
This is a love attack, I know it went out but it's back
It's just like any fad it retracts before impact
And just like fashion it's a passion for the with it and the hip
If ya' got the goods they'll come and buy it just to stay in the cliqe
[Ok, after he says cliqe the dirty guitar comes in,
plays this below and then goes straight into RIFF 2 for
the chorus.]

chorus starts on this one.
During the chorus, the clean guitar plays the same notes as in
the verses, but he plays the rhythm a little differently. You don't
hear it much in the chorus, the dirty guitar is what's important
there.
CHORUS: [Dirty guitar plays RIFF 2 throughout chorus]
-------
So don't delay, act now
Supplies are running out
Allow if you're still alive,
six to eight years to arrive
And if you follow there maybe you're too hollow
But if the offer is shun
you might as well be walkin' on the sun
[You play RIFF 2 three times in the chorus and
then the 4th time you play it like this:]
E|----------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------|
G|----------------------------------|
D|----------4-4---------------------|
A|----0-3-0-5-5---------------------|
E|------------------0---------------|
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
...might as well be walkin' on the sun
Then play RIFF 2 twice before starting verse 2.
VERSE 2: [play like verse 1]
--------
Twenty-five years ago they spoke out and they broke out
Of recession and oppression and together they toked
And they folked out with guitars around a bonfire
Just a singin' and a clappin' man what the hell happened?
Yeah some were spellbound some were hellbound some they fell down
And some got back up and fought back against the meltdown
and their kids were hippie chicks, all hypocrites
because fashion is smashin' the true meaning of it
CHORUS: [play like previous chorus]
-------
So don't delay, act now
Supplies are running out
Allow if you're still alive,
six to eight years to arrive
And if you follow there maybe you're too hollow
But if the offer is shun
you might as well be walkin' on the sun

VERSE 3:
--------
[clean guitar playing RIFF 1]
It ain't no joke when a mama's hankerchief is soaked
With her tears because her baby's life has been revoked
[dirty guitar playing RIFF 2]
The bond is broke up so choke up and focus on the close up
Mr. Wizard can't perform, no God like hocus pocus
[clean guitar playing RIFF 3 (normal verse riff)]
So don't sit back, kick back and watch the world get bushwacked
Use the ten your neighborhood is under attack
Put away the crack before the crack puts you away
You need to be there when your baby is old enough to relate
